This project supports providing water for consumption in Pluak Daeng Subdistrict, Pluak Daeng District, Rayong Province, and Khao Khansong Subdistrict, Si Racha District, Chonburi Province, due to drought conditions. WHA staffs brought water trucks to assist Pluak Daeng Subdistrict Administrative Organization and residents from Khao Khansong Subdistrict area distributing water to people experiencing water scarcity to alleviate the impact.
In addition, WHA Group also supports communities in providing clean water and improving village water supply systems for Village 8 in Bang But District and Village 11, Nong Bua Subdistrict in Ban Khai District. The Local leaders and community members are empowered to manage and understand the process of purifying raw water effectively. During 2023, WHA Group delivered village water supply systems to communities on three occasions, providing over 60,000 liters of clean water to alleviate water shortage issues.
Furthermore, WHA Group along with Bang But Subdistrict Administrative Organization supported Village 10 in Bang But District, Ban Khai District, Rayong Province, by drilling artesian wells to aid high-altitude communities facing water shortages during the dry season. This was done in collaboration with the local village water supply committees and community leaders, benefiting more than 530 people from 200 households.
Additionally, WHA Group has implemented innovations in the production of industrial water through the Reclamation Water project, which involves recycling treated wastewater to produce high-quality water for customers within WHA Group's industrial estates. By 2023, the project successfully achieved a water production target of 60,400 cubic meters per day, significantly reducing reliance on natural water sources and wastewater discharge into public channels by up to 6.9 million cubic meters annually. Moreover, it has enabled the production of mineral-free or high-quality water tailored for industrial customers within WHA Group's industrial estates. This project aims to ensure long-term water security and reduce dependency on natural water sources, thereby mitigating water scarcity issues.
The project to improve the agricultural water distribution system is supported by WHA Group together with Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate 4 Co., Ltd. The project aims to enhance the water distribution system for agriculture in Maenam Khu Subdistrict, Rayong Province. This initiative is designed to assist farmers and residents in Mae Nam Khu Sub-district, totaling 2,072 people, in using water for both livelihoods and domestic consumption.
WHA Group's Water Hyacinth Product Project is a commendable initiative that demonstrates the company's commitment to social responsibility, environmental stewardship, and sustainable practices. The project empowers local communities around the Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate (Rayong) by providing them with an opportunity to generate income and transform waste into valuable products. Community members are able to utilize water hyacinths harvested from the WHA’s wastewater polishing pond dredging process to weave baskets and create various handicrafts for sale, without incurring any costs. This initiative allows the community to generate income and save expenses on purchasing water hyacinths, amounting to approximately 100 baht per baskets. Each baskets contains about 150 water hyacinths strips, ensuring a stable source of raw materials every month.
Additionally, WHA Group annually purchases handwoven baskets made from water hyacinth produced by the local communities every year, totaling 300 baskets valued at 120,000 baht. Combined with local products from WHA PAN GAN project as New Year gifts, this initiative has generated an income of 590,000 baht for the community, resulting in an additional monthly income of about 2,000 baht per person.
Furthermore, since 2021, WHA Group has collaborated with PTT Global Chemical (PTTGC) to innovate ways to enhance the value of water hyacinth. They have developed a new type of fabric through an Upcycling process, weaving fibers from water hyacinth harvested from the ponds in WHA Group's industrial estate, mixed with fibers made from recycled PET bottles and cotton fibers.
This project demonstrates its commitment to environmental stewardship and community engagement through its fish release project. The initiative aims to replenish natural water resources, enhance biodiversity, and support sustainable fisheries practices. WHA Group, in collaboration with the IEAT Director and officers of WHA Industrial Estate 2, hosted an event to release fish breeds back into natural water sources. The activity took place in Ban Map Khla community, Khlong Kio Subdistrict, Ban Bueng District, Chonburi Province, with community leaders, residents, teachers, students, and monks participation in the event.
