WHA Group Community Visit Enlightens Residents on Marine Ecosystem Preservation

For many years now, WHA Group has been recognized for various CSR activities that reflect its commitment to society. It has been actively applying its policy to care for neighboring communities and the environment by initiating projects that inspire people to help each other in a caring, humanitarian way.

Included in WHA’s CSR program are trips to its industrial estates, to give community members an understanding of its operations and efforts to preserve the well-being of the people and to respect nature. The group is shown the waste water treatment facilities at the Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate (Rayong), and the wetland project, inspired by HM the Late King Bhumibol who advocated the treatment of waste water biologically.

This year, WHA held a 2-day Community Visit to Toei Ngam Beach, Sattahip Naval Base in Chonburi province. Community leaders, local residents and the WHA Team were given an overview of the Royal Thai Marine Corps’ mission to protect and preserve Thailand’s tropical ecosystem. Officials explained the different environmental campaigns launched in this site and discussed the impact of global warming. Its first project, initiated more than 10 years ago, was the rehabilitation of the mangrove forest.

The group was given the opportunity to release baby nurse sharks back into sea, an activity aiming to contribute to the balance of nature. In addition, many community members joined in the planting of coral, using artificial planting beds. Corals are home to fish and other sea creatures, which means that the more live coral there is under the sea, the better the chances of increasing the fish population.

The group also participated in team-building activities and a leisurely hike on a forest trail to promote environmental awareness. “Every year, we select visits that are educational and informative, and that can benefit the most number of people in the long-term,” said Ms. Siyaphas Chantachairoj, Director – Corporate Marketing, WHA Corporation PCL. “Ecological balance is very important for coastal communities to survive. They depend on the sea for a stable supply of food and a source of income. Enhancing awareness for preserving marine life is necessary for the well-being of the people and can lead to positive impact on different communities.”

WHA Group takes it responsibility and commitment very seriously by initiating sustainable actions and awareness programs to bring the community together and encourage pro-activity and involvement. Such initiatives will help shape a better, brighter future for all.
